Abstract

The study aimed to shed light on some of the social variables associated with women’s practice of sports activities in Libyan society, by relying on the descriptive analytical approach and a social survey of a sample of female trainees, and reached results. The majority of female respondents are single, middle-aged women (26-36 years old) with a university education level and a high family income. They prefer to practice various activities, such as aerobic, Swedish, and cardio exercises. Their most prominent motivation for exercising is to obtain agility and physical fitness, and to be exposed to bullying because of obesity. The most prominent family members who supported their practice of sports were (father and children), followed by childhood friends and neighbors. Society’s view of their practice of sports was negative and dismissive. Among the difficulties they faced were the high prices of training sessions in private sports clubs, and the lack of allocating time for women’s sports in government clubs.
