The extent of application of the (ISO)standard No (11620) for the Koha system at the University of Technology

Abstract

The research aims to introduce general and private international standards and subsystems for automated systems in accordance with the (ISO) standard No. (11620), indicating the percentage of application of the special standards for the Koha system in the central library of the University of Technology, and identifying the types of international standards that should be invested in developing library services. The research into the application was based on the descriptive analytical approach and the case study approach for applying the (ISO) standard No. (11620) in the Central Library of the University of Technology. One of the most important results reached by the research. The percentage of application of special standards for the Koha system was (46%), while the number of standards not applied in the system was (35). Senior management's lack of awareness of the requirements of research and development hinders the provision of the best services to researchers and beneficiaries at the Technological University. Therefore, efforts must be made to provide the necessary resources for implementing international standards (ISO 11620) through specialized guides, modern communication devices, and specialized staff. It is also essential to emphasize the importance of adhering to all global standards of the Koha system to benefit and support all library users, by establishing a specialized department for information management responsible for continuous monitoring and evaluation of the extent to which the system's applications are implemented and support the needs of the beneficiaries.
