Abstract

         The current study aims to know the reading strategies (cognitive, meta-cognitive, compensatory) most used by PhD students at the University of Kasdi Merbah Ouargla, and to detect differences in the use of these strategies according to the gender variable. 2011), as a basic tool for data collection, and the sample consisted of (150) PhD students, and the results were as follows: metacognitive strategy with an arithmetic mean of (59.786) and a relative weight of (74.733), then the cognitive strategy with an arithmetic mean of (59.613) and a relative weight It reached (74.517), then the compensatory strategy with an arithmetic mean of (36.22) and a relative weight of (72.44). The degree of use of these strategies is high and they are close to each other, especially the metacognitive strategy and the cognitive strategy. The results also showed that there were no statistically significant differences in the use of reading strategies with respect to gender.
