Abstract

The multi-faceted connection between North Africa and Sub-Saharan Africa since very ancient historical periods has led to the transformation of the Sahara Desert separating them into a bridge linking these two geographical areas. These relations will flourish and develop greatly during the Middle Ages, especially economic relations, thanks to the emergence of many cities on the two edges. The northern and southern Sahara, which will be transformed into commercial centers, helped all those involved in trade exchanges between the Maghreb and Sudan during the Middle Ages. The emergence of these centers was due to several factors, including what is geographical and what is economic, as well as what is political and security.
