Abstract

The Fatimids attempted to achieve their political project of assuming the Islamic Caliphate by establishing their own state in the western Islamic world before returning to the East and fulfilling the dream of the Caliphate. They chose Ifriqiya as the base for this project, and after strengthening their state in the Maghreb, they worked towards conquering Egypt and relocating their capital there as a first step towards achieving their desired goal. In this regard, this study examines the historical reasons and motivations that led the Fatimids to migrate from Ifriqiya to Egypt, as well as the factors that facilitated their transition.
