Abstract

the research studies the term discourse in Arabic and foreign linguistic dictionaries , indicating the conceptual convergence of the operative in the operative articulation based on dialogue and mutual understanding. it deals with the term '' discourse '' in traditional Arabic among grammarians , critics , rhetoricians , and fundamentalist and philosophers forms , highlighting its manifestation through various studies such as speech , news , statement , discourse and through its derivation as well .  it also deals with the term discourse among modern Arab scholars , indicating its comprehensiveness in them and its contention for several structural , semantic , contextual , communicative and deliberative aspects . it also studies the term discourse in western studies , showing its roots back in the Greek logos , as it was associated with the Greeks with several philosophical aspects . as for the studies of modern western linguists , its essence differs due to different schools and directions , and  from here , it contained under three models : formal , functional and verbal .
