The effect of mental training on some basic skills of volleyball players

Abstract

Mental training has been defined by “Unthtal” as: regular, long-term exercise of mental skills and attitudes, with two main goals, one of which is reaching the highest athletic levels and the second is developing the will. Various studies have also indicated that mental training aims to raise the level of motor performance and develop capabilities. Mental training is highly effective in acquiring and learning various skills by learning them mentally and visualizing them in the desired form. After visualizing a particular skill, it is stored in short-term memory, and when used in a practical training manner, it is stored in long-term memory, as mental training is one of the important methods in developing the skill mentally. This was confirmed by: Weinrck, who acknowledged that the ability to achieve victories depends on obtaining the highest possible level of physical abilities, motor skills, planning, and psychological abilities. Therefore, there must be an organized strategic planning for training programs on scientific foundations in the field of training the modern athlete, as he must have Players have mental perceptions and perceptions that help them reach the highest mastery of the skill to be mastered during training or competition.The sample included (26) players from the Cubs category of the Shabab Al-Muhair Volleyball Club and was divided into two equal groups, one of which was control, which used the traditional approach, and the other was experimental, which used the mental training accompanying learning the technical performance in the volleyball event as well as the traditional method, and after completing the equivalence tests. The pre-tests were carried out by the team coach, and after completing the seven educational units, the post-tests were carried out. The data was collected and processed statistically using the arithmetic mean, standard deviation, and T-value for two means, related and unrelated, for two equal samples. The researchers concluded that the mental training that accompanies learning artistic performance affects... A positive impact on the development of some volleyball skills.
