Abstract

               The city of Alexandria has reached a unique center among the cities of the world and its great gaps, which qualifies it to emerge in all fields of endeavor to bring the sides of human civilization closer. It is the center of civilizational and cultural radiation as it occupies the forefront and religious leadership in the Christian East. The study sheds light on its economic and cultural life and the consequent positives for the city. The study relied on the historical method to know the economic and cultural conditions that made the city occupy a leading position among the countries of the ancient world and as a result of the city’s geographical location and commercial and industrial prosperity, which was linked to the flourishing of cultural life. It is a prosperous intellectual, scientific, artistic and literary center due to the presence of the library, museum and schools, whether pagan or Christian, and being the religious capital of Egypt, in addition to the presence of the episcopal see in it and it was the seat of the governor.
