Abstract

This article deals with the topic of “heritage interpretation” as a communicative activity within the cultural mediation framework. It is known that the activity of heritage interpreting has been of great importance not only in Morocco, but also in a broad group of countries in the world. In Morocco, this activity has emerged in recent years, where a number of Heritage interpreting centers have been established. In this article we will introduce the example of the Heritage Interpreting Center of the Archaeological Site of Volubilis and the Heritage Interpreting Center of Middle Atlas", which is affiliated to Cultural Center of Azrou city. Through this article we try to achieve two main goals: - The first goal is general: it is about to study the idea of “ heritage interpreting” which is inspired from the American and Western experience and how it was transferred to Moroccan institutions and spaces, today called heritage interpreting centers. - The second goal is specific: we will try to present how Volubilis and the Middle Atlas region are rich in terms of heritage, culture and nature, through what Heritage Interpreting Center exhibits to the public. We will focus on the archaeological, ethnographic and natural components of these two innovative museum spaces.
